Wire
lines are becoming more and more popular,
especially with Dipsy Divers and pound
ball rigs. And anyone who fishes with
wire knows two things about it: one, it
catches fish; second, its gonna curl—especially
at the end. The dreaded curl can develop
kinks that lead to snapped lines and lost
fish.
One way to keep your line
taut—and thus curl free—is
to use a compression spring between two
8-millimeter beads. You can find the compression
springs at any hardware store. Look for
ones that are short enough and stiff enough
so they don’t bend when pressure
is applied. The beads will keep your terminal
tackle from entering the roller-tip of
the rods and the spring between the beads
provides a cushion so you can tighten
up on the reel and keep the line taut.
For terminal tackle, use a large snap
swivel like those sold by Opti
Tackle. This way you can quickly change
from Dipsys to pound balls to storage.
Although this is a spectacular
way to reduce curl in wire line, it won’t
eliminate it. So between trips make certain
to check the line carefully and re-tie
as needed. |
